People tend to eq before distortion because you can customize the kind of tone that results from it. The issue is that normally eqing before distortion results in an imbalanced sound and requires that you eq after distortion. This rack does this automatically by having the eq after distortion do the opposite shape of the eq before distortion. You can also control how much the eq after the distortion is correcting the frequency balance. Distortion is also gain compensated so the overall volume level is not going to change despite distorting.
Very helpful too on having very resonant and thin peaks- rack gives the tone without excessive resonance or ringing.
